The Creative Process: Ora Cogan on the Dark and Light of Songwriting (Video)

Vancouver Island, British Columbia’s Ora Cogan is a singer-songwriter and an experienced advocate for DIY touring. A few years back her album, Crickets, totally overtook me. The synths, the songwriting, the cinematic arrangements and sound design; I heard it, bought it, we connected on the road, and I’ve been a diehard fan ever since.

In my recent interview with Ora, she talks about how the process of making that record was so different from other records (including her recent EP, DYED) in that there was no “resistance” in the writing or production process. Usually, somewhere down the line there’s a crisis, problems that need to be solved, lyrics that don’t quite fit the new arrangements, etc. We chat about this and so much more — tune in!

“The Creative Process” is Soundfly’s conversation series with working artists and music industry insiders which touches on advice and strategies for the modern musician culled from our guests’ experiences and successes throughout their careers.
